Hometree, the smart home services company, has made four new hires to its senior management team as it launches the first online led boiler installation service in the UK. The company has appointed Paul Lewis as CMO, David Lee as CFO, James Kydd as Brand Adviser and Rob Gladwin as a Strategic Adviser.
Paul Lewis joins Hometree as CMO from VoucherCodes, where he was Senior Director of Marketing. Lewis has more than 16 years’ experience in marketing strategy, previously holding senior positions at MOO.COM, Betfair and Ancestry. James Kydd will be supporting Paul Lewis as Brand Adviser, giving strategic vision to the business as it develops its brand. Kydd is currently Marketing Director at Purplebricks, and prior to this he was Managing Director for Brand and Marketing at Virgin Media.
David Lee has been appointed as CFO and joins with 15 years’ experience in high growth entrepreneurial start-ups with stints as CFO of venture capital backed StrataJet, Mendeley (which was sold to Reed Elsiver) and as financial controller of Betfair.
Rob Gladwin has been appointed as a Strategic Adviser, helping to guide the business on navigating the complex heating and home related supply chain. Gladwin is a former board member of Wolseley UK, the world’s largest trade distributor of plumbing and heating products.
Hometree was founded in 2016 by Simon Phelan, an engineer who began his career at Jon Moulton’s private-equity firm Better Capital, and Andreu Tobella, also an engineer who headed up the product team at British Gas owned subsidiary, Hive.
Hometree is funded by Paul Pindar’s Literacy Capital, LocalGlobe, DN Capital, as well as a number of high profile angel investors such as Jon Moulton, Founder of Better Capital, Ian Marchant, former CEO of Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) & Anthony Gutman, CEO of Goldman Sachs UK.
Paul Lewis, Chief Marketing Officer, Hometree said: “I’m hugely excited to be joining Hometree at a time when there is so much opportunity for growth and innovation. I look forward to bringing my experience from brands such as MOO.COM and VoucherCodes to help cement Hometree as the leading home services provider in the market, starting with boilers.
“Hometree is doing something unique and forward thinking in an industry that hasn’t modernised for years, and I am enthusiastic to be a part of that.”
David Lee, Chief Financial Officer, Hometree said: “The boiler market is ripe for disruption and there is an obvious customer need for change. I am eager to use my experience with other high growth start-ups to help build Hometree and get ready for scale-up.”
Simon Phelan, Founder and CEO, Hometree said: “As we build a new home services model for the future it is vital that we have the correct team in place to support our vision. Developing our brand and marketing is crucial for customer acquisition and the combined experience of Paul and James will help establish Hometree as a household name. Similarly, taking on-board David as CFO is a hugely important milestone to the business as we start to scale out nationally.”
“As this takes place, Rob will be invaluable in developing our manufacturer & supply chain strategy. He has a wealth of knowledge and years of experience in the industry and understands our vision for the future of home services.”
The company is disrupting the boiler and home services industry through an innovative business model, putting control back into the hands of consumers where previously the industry has been opaque and uncompetitive, with limited consumer knowledge.
A huge 1.7 million boilers are installed in the UK every year, but this tends to happen only once every 10 years or so for each consumer. Since a boiler is not an everyday expense, it can be difficult for consumers to genuinely understand the product and associated costs.
Hometree offers upfront and clear online costs for boiler purchases and installations. Alongside this, customers are offered video chat advice with an engineer as well as guaranteed times for an engineer to show up at a customer’s home (ending wasted days off work).
Hometree are championing an end to high pressure sales tactics to consumers in their own home, and also offer 10-year warranties with quality guarantees.
